2013 Anthony Jones Award
Anthony Jones was a great supporter of Leominster Minors. Two of his children, Lewis and Annabelle, are popular Minors players and Hayley plays with Leominster Town Ladies. After Anthony's death in 2011 the family felt Anthony would like to leave a legacy to the Club. Each year the Club presents the Anthony Jones Memorial Trophy, an award given to a player who has been an inspiration.
In 2011 the inaugeral award was made to George Edmands, then an Under 12's player. Last year the award was presented to Liam Morgan then an 15's.
Eric Lane considered all the nominations for individual players made by all managers. He decided the award should be made to Alfie Stanik from the Under 13's. Alfie's manager, Steve Morgan, made the following nomination for Alfie;
"We have a young player who has been with us from the age of six. In the last two seasons their legs seem to have given up on them (cause unknown despite being backwards and forwards to hospital which is still ongoing).This player has spent some of this year in a wheelchair when this player's legs gave up completely and on good days on crutches. This player has still come along to many of the games to support the team with their parents. This player also managed to train with us on the last training of the season so hopefully will be back with us next year. This player is always smiling despite being in tremendous pain and I hope you think as I do that this player deserves this award."
Congratulations from everyone at Minors to Alfie.
